Funding for AMIGOS
The cost of participation for each AMIGOS volunteer is covered through direct family contributions, fundraising activities developed by the volunteers and their families, and direct contributions from individuals, corporations and community foundations. The proceeds from these activities pay for the round-trip summer airfare for each volunteer, project supplies, and field staff in each country to support service activities and provide medical backup in the case of emergency. In addition, the funds support the local infrastructure necessary to operate Seattle Amigos by supporting training and resources for Amigos Board members and supporting operation of the Amigos de las Americas International Office, which provides essential advice and structure for volunteer chapters to function efficiently. Board members are supported by chapter funds to participate in national and international training regarding best practices. A portion of the Seattle chapter funds are devoted to a scholarship program for volunteers based on family need.
Fundraising
Seattle Amigos would like to offer the Amigos program to young people regardless of their family’s financial situation. The number of youth who can receive scholarships is dependent upon the success of our fundraising. Fundraising activities always include a direct mail appeal to the friends and family of current volunteers. Other fundraising activities vary year to year. A citrus sale for December holiday delivery has been traditional, and the chapter has sometimes sold coffee and held auctions and dinners. If you wish to participate in any fundraising activity, please e-mail the chapter.
Direct Donations
Individuals in the Seattle metropolitan area who would like to contribute directly to the operation of the Seattle Chapter of AMIGOS may contribute directly by check or credit card. Donations to AMIGOS are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Please note that Amigos is funded entirely through direct contributions and fundraising. AMIGOS Seattle Chapter neither solicits nor accepts money from the United States government. It is recognized under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as a charitable/educational organization.
