The time spent volunteering in AMIGOS is an experience that no one forgets. Volunteers come back every year speaking of a new family, new brothers and sisters, and what the members of the community taught them. Every year volunteers talk about similar lessons learned – humility, patience, flexibility and gratitude for the warm welcome they received.
A Seattle chapter volunteer wrote,” I learned so much about myself and the world around me. I returned with self-confidence that I never knew I had, and an appreciation for what I do have. My view of the world was broadened which has left me wanting to know more and more with the hopes that I’ll be able to change it for the better… My experiences with AMIGOS have been absolutely phenomenal. I’ve milked goats, met presidential candidates, gained two loving families, and made numerous friends from across the United States and throughout Latin American. I’ ve experienced new ways of living that I barely even knew about prior to AMIGOS. The organization made an enormous impact upon my life and even the life of my family and those who surround me."
